Bob Shapiro's Galleries

Your Bio

Hi, and welcome to my SmugMug site. One day about 60 some odd years ago I got attacked by the giant fish seen here. Actually this is the original attack as photographed by my Dad. Of course now I know it is not a fish but a whale, Moby Bob, the great gray whale. I was saved when the camera I carried got caught in his teeth and kept me from becoming Bob in the Whale. It spit me up. As a result for continued protection from the great gray (which is out there some place) I have never since been without a camera.

My Backyard Birds : My birding has grown so much in the time since April 2009 that I have decided to break down my galleries by general location. This gallery, my first by area, is devoted to what I call My Backyard which in reality is a side yard and front yard and includes my entire development and the area that is a Maximum of 3/4 miles to the south from my front door. Where I live and where I commute daily. My home turf so to speak. In the beginning I thought nothing about this area. Over the many years living here I had seen some Muscovy Ducks on a regular basis, a few Blue Jays, some Doves and some assorted other small birds plus, I think, once a Great Blue Heron. So no big deal. My total lack of noticing what was obviosly there bewilders me as I am known for noticing things that others miss. Fully 1/3 of what I have identified and photographed so far in my new hobby, has happened in the area I call My Backyard.

Check out the creatures I met while photo'ing birds : While out "birding" you really get the opportunity at times to photo other creatures. Sometimes you attract them as spectators and sometimes you scare them into movement but either way you get that opportunity. Here are some I have taken while birding. Large to tiny.

Family Ties : An ecclectic assortment of a century's worth of photos chosen at random and presented in no particular order just for the fun of looking at. Featuring Shapiro, Robins and Rohrbach clans and relatives but primarily showing built around Beth and Meghan. A little over a hundred chosen at random from thousands of photos. By "at random" I really mean willy-nilly without any thought of how good or how well preserved the photo may be. Enjoy.
